Let's Go Stitchin - Desiree's 100 Day Project Challenge for Hand Applique and Embroidery
What are you doing for the next 100 days? Have you heard about the 100 day project challenge?? Do something creative for 100 days? Are you up for a challenge? You can read all about the 100 day project here, but let me share my idea with you. I thought it would be so much more fun to do something together than to do something alone so I am designing this quilt project for our own exclusive 100 day challenge. I am excited to see what we can do together!
Let me tell you my idea for Let's Get Stitchin!!
I thought it would be fun to join in on the 100 day project and use it to create an awesome quilt. I have heard it's best if you keep it simple so that it is doable. I have created 6 different designs for a total of 10 blocks that are similar to one another but different from one another. I wanted it to have a modern graphic feel to it. Because is simple you can really personalize it to what you want. You will make one square each day and at the end of the 100 days we will assemble them to create our quilt. The idea is to use your stash (you know we all have one) to make each design. You can choose to do a very planned color theme or you can just wing it. You can even do a black and white quilt which would look amazing. By working on this together it gives us all a better chance of finishing. We can cheer each other on and hold each other accountable. I want this to be a fun thing and although it requires a commitment I think it will give us all a sense of accomplishment.
Who is this for? Everyone!! We want everyone to feel like they can join in on the fun. Whether you are a machine embroiderer or a appliquer, a hand embroiderer or if you like fusible applique you are all welcome. We will have a different club for the machine embroider verses the hand embroiderer or appliquer. (This sign up page is for Machine Embroidery people, those who own a embroidery machine that requires digitized files.) This is because the machine embroidery people will get embroidery files and as the appliquers and hand embroidery people will get templates and different instructions. For those of you who are doing this by hand or doing it on a machine with fusible I will give you some special tips to help keep you on track to finish. Its not about perfection but more about having some fun together and sharing our unique blocks each day. I will give you some tips on using the freezer paper method of applique but feel free to use the method you like best, its your 100 project.
Once you sign up you will automatically receive:
Our Ready Set Go info sheet with a calendar of events
Link to our FB group
Link to our first Zoom Meeting on January 27 for members
Jan 30- your first block/template will arrive with instructions
You will be sent the appropriate files to your email address every 10 days with instructions starting on Jan 30. You will make a block each day for the next 10 days then you will receive another design. Your files, depending on what you sign up for will include the files or templates, instructions, and photos. You will get a calendar block schedule so you can check off your block progress. You will also be invited into our Private FB group where you can share your blocks and progress. Being able to see each others blocks is always so motivating and inspiring.
Here is what you will be doing during the 100 day challenge project.
You will be given links to special Zoom meetings with me,where we will meet and go over things like;
Choosing a background
Creating a plan
Ideas for hand applique or embroidery
Adding other stitches
Tips on how to make it through
Finishing the quilt and more.
I will be doing it right along with you, I will need the accountability too! If you decide to not join in I hope you will support and cheer on all of us who are doing the challenge.
I have designed 10 fun simple quilt blocks, they will come is several sizes so you can determine what size quilt you want to make. (5" blocks = 50"x50" quilt- 6" blocks = 60"x60" quilt etc.) You will make each block 10 times using different combinations of fabrics so that they each will be the same but still different. We want to encourage you to use your stash but still have a plan for your quilt. You are welcome to join in on our monthly Zoom meeting where we can encourage one another and discuss our blocks. This will help keep us going, inspired and motivated. The key is making it simple and doable. Since I will be doing it right along with you there is no finished quilt to show you. I will be finishing mine at the same time that you will be finishing yours. I will need the accountability too. Sound interesting? Well, for less than $3 a week you can join in and create your own special version of my latest quilt design. Yes, this 100 day challenge project is just $40 for the machine embroiderers and only $25 for the hand embroiders and appliquers. Where else can you have this much fun for $40 and 100 days of sewing.
I hope you will join me for the next 100 days for a fun filled project. It all starts on January 31. We want everyone to post their blocks on social media, if you are on social media, with the hashtag #100dayproject, #desirees100dayproject,#LetsgoStitchin .
Join today and get started collecting your fabrics. Not sure? Join us on Jan 20 for a live Zoom call for more info. Then on January 25 we will meet via Zoom with the sign ups to go over everything you need to get started and pull it all together to start on Jan 31! Why go it alone when we can do this together.
I will not be showing you a picture of a finished quilt just each block at a time. Its a bit of a mystery too. I will be looking for some special quilts to feature on my website. This pattern is not available to the public yet so we are making it together. One of the blocks is featured.
You need a working knowledge of your sewing machine or your preferred method of applique. I suggest a new needle and a good selection of fabrics and thread
Includes embroidery files in multiple sizes and formats, PDF instructions for blocks, and access to our private FB group and Zoom meetings.
